Hybrid public transport

The public transport system of Nuremberg has become more "electric", and all this thanks to a diesel-electric hybrid bus developed by MAN and Volvo. The vehicle is equipped with Siemens technology in traction. The prototype, which also includes a system for recovering energy in braking, consumes 25% less fuel that an ordinary bus. The system consists of traction components that can be produced in series, which means that the production of the vehicle can be a reality by 2010.

In addition to a combustion engine, hybrid vehicles are also equipped with an electric motor that is used to start the vehicle. The electric motor also functions as a generator. When the vehicle is braking, the kinetic energy is not wasted, but converted to electricity and stored. This energy is later used to power the vehicle. The hybrid systems are ideal for city bus, because they often slowing and accelerating
